A Vice-Province in Full Expansion

The Vice-Province of Rwanda and Kenya currently has 43 Sisters spread across seven communities: five in Rwanda (32 Sisters) and two in Kenya (7 Sisters). Additionally, four Sisters are in formation at the International English-speaking novitiate in Nairobi, Kenya. The Sisters, though located in different communities across Rwanda and Kenya, regularly come together for assemblies, vow celebrations, or times of formation.

The strength of the entity lies in the presence of many young Sisters, who benefit from the guidance of more experienced Helpers. There is also a strong focus on vocational ministry.
The Sisters of the Vice-Province are deeply affected by Rwanda’s history, some having to leave the country during the genocide but later choosing to return to contribute to national reconciliation efforts. This significant challenge has shaped this growing entity, which now includes fifteen young professed Sisters.

“Helpers of Hope, let us become mediators of peace and reconciliation wherever we are!”

(This motto was chosen by the Sisters after the Rwandan genocide, during a meeting where those evacuated decided to return to the country to work together for reconciliation.)

Our missions

The Helpers of the Vice-Province of Rwanda and Kenya work with young people, the sick, trauma victims, those in precarious situations, and are also involved in formation programmes for other religious congregations.

Education
In the 1960s, the Helpers created the first school in Rwanda dedicated to training social workers. Today, a Rwandan Sister leads this school, which has been recognised as a “state school.” The Helpers also run a vocational training school in Gisagara, where the first school was established, offering courses in carpentry, sewing, and masonry.
Health
The Sisters have been involved in a health centre in Busoro, located in southern Rwanda, since its opening.
Spiritual and Human Support
The Helpers offer support to individuals seeking meaning in their lives. Through their attentive listening, they encourage them in their daily lives.
