Over the summer, we, the Sisters of the Chad group, had the joy of once again experiencing the vocational camp led by Sister Valeria, Sister Haydée, and Sister Leo. The camp was held from August 28 to September 2, 2024, in Bitkine, Chad, in the Guéra region.
The seven participants came from Doba, N’Djamena, and Mongo, places where we are on mission.
The theme of our gathering was “The Disciples of Emmaus” (Luke 24:18-35). We accompanied these disciples on their journey, putting ourselves in their shoes. We walked with them through discouragement, in the presence of Jesus without recognising Him, during the breaking of bread when we did recognise Him, and in the joy of encountering the Risen Lord.
We shared moments of fellowship together, guided by the Word of God. The beautiful nature surrounding the camp inspired us to praise the Lord at all times.
Each participant was grateful for the opportunity to deepen her faith over these six days and to regain confidence in the future.
In addition to the text that guided us each day, we also had moments for personal and group prayer. Furthermore, external guests shared their experiences to help us better recognise God’s presence in our lives.
In celebration of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, we held vocational Olympic games, where participants competed for the camp’s Olympic medal. This six-day gathering allowed us to recognise the Lord on our journey and to share the bread of life.
Since the end of the camp, it is our turn, like the disciples, to proclaim to our communities, parishes, and families—with burning hearts of joy—the joy of having seen Jesus risen and His presence in our lives.
